Welcome to New York Metal Highway Sign
A striking piece of American roadside history: an original "Welcome to New York — The Empire State" highway marker, hand-lettered in gold on a deep cobalt blue ground, with the New York State coat of arms centered above the state motto band. Very heavy, metal sign which retains a wonderfully weathered surface — cracked and alligatored paint, edge chipping, and soft rust bleed at the mounting points — incredible patina of decades spent facing the elements at a state line. Its arched crown and clipped lower corners give it a graphic, shield-like silhouette that reads beautifully as a piece of large-scale wall art as much as it does as a historical artifact. One of the coolest signs we have. Amazing for any lover of the Empire State.
