Pierre Jeanneret’s Chandigarh furniture was designed in the 1950s for government buildings in India, including the High Court, Secretariat, Legislative Assembly, and Panjab University. Unlike luxury studio pieces, these works were functional civic furnishings created for daily institutional use.
As Le Corbusier’s cousin and longtime architectural partner, Jeanneret relocated to Chandigarh to oversee construction and develop much of the city’s furniture program. Today, authenticated Chandigarh pieces are among the most collected examples of mid-century modern design, valued for their provenance, material honesty, and architectural history.
Collectors can view and acquire authenticated Pierre Jeanneret furniture at our Los Angeles and Southampton galleries, where we curate original Chandigarh pieces for designers and collectors seeking museum-quality mid-century modern design.
