A hand-fabricated sculptural multiple by artist and AIDS activist Adam Rolston, created for his 1991 exhibition at Wessel O'Connor, Ltd. in New York, an exhibition built around advocating safe sex practices at the height of the AIDS crisis. Rolston, a member of the activist art collective Gran Fury and co-author of AIDS Demo Graphics, designed and built these boxes by hand: Trojan's actual product at the time shipped in vacuum-sealed plastic, so the cardboard shipping-carton aesthetic seen here, complete with faux lot number, reorder code, and barcode, is entirely the artist's invention. The result reads as deadpan warehouse packaging while functioning as pointed commentary on consumer branding, sexuality, and public health messaging. Each work in the edition of 1,000 is hand signed and dated in ink on the underside, with its own edition number stamped on the side. This example is numbered 1/1000, with "LOT NO. 0872" and "REORDER #60512" printed as part of the fabrication.

Rolston's work from this period is held in institutional collections including MOCA.
