Overview

Rare, set of eight "Beaubourg" chairs, designed in 1976 by Michel Cadestin and Georges Laurent. This legendary design won the public competition to furnish the interior of the radical Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris—a selection curated by a jury headed by the master of French modernism, Jean Prouvé. Constructed with a heavy, industrial-grade galvanized steel wireframe and tubular chassis, these chairs balance avant-garde architectural lines with functional durability. The sculpted seat and backrest are clad in their original, thick saddle brown leather slings, tightly secured to the metal grid with heavy-duty metallic rivets. The leather has an amazing patina and incredibly soft. Great piece of design history. Priced as a set of eight.
