Beautiful large leather hippopotamus by Omersa. Heavy, functional stool, strong enough for an adult. Made in England, Circa 1960s. Beautiful vintage coloring and patina. No tears or rips. Great sculptural seat. Fun piece of usable art for the home. Good vintage condition.

Dimitri Omersa was in the leather trade. He met a man named 'Old Bill' that was making leather Pigs to Liberty's, a store in London. When Old Bill decided to retire, Omersa took over the business and kept supplying the leather animals to LIberty's. Over time, he had idea for other animals including the most well known, the rhinocerous. Still made to this day, the Omersa leather animals are a great talking point, functional stool and fun piece of art.
