Overview

A thrilling sculpture made of cut, painted pieces of found iron. Esoteric, whimsical, and charming: this piece has incredible presence. At over 7 feet tall, it is literally "larger than life". When suspended it emanates an uncanny feeling, playing with form to create a silhouette which both resembles and rejects reality. Articulates at 13 independent joints along the arms, legs, and spine. Fabulous details throughout, such as the inclusion within the pelvic bone, the spring neck, and the barreled ribcage. Circular perforations scattered along the "bones" add interest and depth. Raw edges, patina, and varying texture give this piece an inimitable quality.  Cartoonish features such as the exaggerated feet and simplified expression animate the skeleton's personality. A marvelous piece to view from all angles. Can be displayed as a suspended sculpture, or propped up for a more tongue-in-cheek approach. Folk art with unknown provenance, though patina throughout suggests some decades of age. One of a kind.

Width with limbs fully extended is 96".
