A sculptural letter opener by the Parisian silversmith Ravinet d'Enfert. Ravinet d'Enfert was among the Parisian silversmiths who made desk and bar accessories for Hermès. This piece has the same refined, sculptural feel found in that work. Silver-plated body sweeps into a curved blade at one end and a scrolling handle at the other. A finely chased brass feather is set into the handle, with each barb individually detailed. The piece is substantial in the hand and graphic laid flat. It works as a desk accessory or as an object on its own on a desk, bookshelf or coffee table. The contrast of warm brass against the cool silver gives it a quietly glamorous, very French character.
