Overview

A set of six bar stools by Charlotte Perriand for the Les Arcs ski resort in Savoie, France. Perriand spent nearly two decades on the architecture and interiors at Les Arcs, one of the most important projects of her late career. This seating is among the best-known pieces from the resort. Each stool has a thick saddle-leather seat folded around a chromed tubular steel frame and held with strap loops and rivets. The seat is shaped as a shallow shell with a low back, and each stool has a square footrest. The design is simple and hardwearing, made for everyday use at a busy mountain resort. The leather has a deep cognac patina with natural darkening, scuffs and wear from decades of use. The chrome frames are in good condition. All legs have rubber feet. All six stools share the exact same seat height, but their back heights vary from chair to chair. Also available as 3 matching pairs.

Rare as a set of 6. Priced in this listing as a set of 6.

Designer Notes
Charlotte Perriand
b. 1903
Charlotte Perriand was a French architect and designer born in Paris, France in 1903. Known primarily for her efforts in creating functional living spaces with the belief that better design helps in creating a better society. In 1927 Le Corbusier offered her a job at his studio where she was in charge of their interiors work and promoting their designs through a series of exhibitions. Perriand described the work as being highly collaborative between Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret (his cousin) and herself. Following her work with Corbusier and Jeanneret, Charlotte also worked closely with Jean Prouvé designing and creating items using metal as was common for Prouve. One of Perriand's most iconic projects was her work at the Les Arcs ski resort in Savoie, France. The ski resorts at Les Arcs in Savoie combined Perriand's interests in prefabrication, standardization, industrialization and mountain architecture, and has been called the climax of her career.
