Stunning solid teak bench designed by Pierre Jeanneret for Chandigargh. Stencil reads - M.L.A.(GH)-036. Rectangular seat resting on two compass type side legs. Connected by a crossbar connecting each leg to its opposite. New caning. New cushion. Benches were used in the hostels and hotels for civil servants. Purchased originally from the Indian government. Have all photos from before and after careful restoration. Restoration done by artisans in India who specialize only in Jeanneret. Reference number PJ-010906. Excellent condition.

b. 1896
Pierre Jeanneret was a swiss architect who worked closely with his cousin, Charles-Edouard Jeanneret (known by the pseudonym Le Corbusier. They set up a studio together in 1922 and worked closely with Charlotte Perriand at their studio Rue de Sevres for 10 years (1927-1937). Jeanneret is most well known for his designing of the buildings and furnishings of Chandigarh, India. Jeanneret died in 1967 and his ashes were scattered in a lake in Chandigarh.
