Overview

Classic pine 4 seater bench designed by Charlotte Perriand for the Les Arcs Ski Resort in France. A beautiful example of iconic Perriand design in an amazingly unusual length stretching 5.25 feet long. Pine was the wood of choice for much of the furniture Perriand designed and installed at the Les Arcs Ski Resort since it would tie in seamlessly with the surrounding geographic region which is chock full of stone, snow and mountain pines. A softer wood with larger growth rings than many trees, the pine tree is also a perfect choice when searching for a piece to warm a space thanks to its stunning amber and tan color. Great condition with dark knots throughout the grain and light scuffs and scratches which lend character. An amazing piece of collectible Charlotte Perriand design. Wear as shown.

Designer Notes
Charlotte Perriand
b. 1903
Charlotte Perriand was a French architect and designer born in Paris, France in 1903. Known primarily for her efforts in creating functional living spaces with the belief that better design helps in creating a better society. In 1927 Le Corbusier offered her a job at his studio where she was in charge of their interiors work and promoting their designs through a series of exhibitions. Perriand described the work as being highly collaborative between Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret (his cousin) and herself. Following her work with Corbusier and Jeanneret, Charlotte also worked closely with Jean Prouvé designing and creating items using metal as was common for Prouve. One of Perriand's most iconic projects was her work at the Les Arcs ski resort in Savoie, France. The ski resorts at Les Arcs in Savoie combined Perriand's interests in prefabrication, standardization, industrialization and mountain architecture, and has been called the climax of her career.
