Overview

Fantastic articulating brass sconce with counterbalance swing arm by Lunel, 1950s France. Massive scale spanning just under 5 feet long. Extremely uncommon large size. 2 shades, one smaller and one larger, each with their own light socket holding one bulb, made of a thin aluminum. Shades/light sources rotate 360" degrees. Two brass arms extend from the wall pivot 180 degrees in both directions. Long counterbalance bar holding the light source on one end and a weighted brass ball on the other end rotates 360 degrees. The outside of the shades are painted in a candy red while the inside of the metal shades are finished in a cream for beautiful and soft illumination. Designer Notes
Lunel
est. 1950
Maison Lunel, a renowned French lighting firm, became a significant reference in the twentieth century. Its creations, highly esteemed by collectors and designers, are easily identifiable by their timeless elegance. Founded by Raymond Lunel in the 1950s, the company started as a small electrical store in Paris. It soon expanded when Lunel established the "Royal Luminaire" factory in Montreuil. Raymond's designs quickly gained market acceptance, attracting the attention of designers like Renée Mathieu and Pierre Guariche, who shared his passion. Lunel lighting designs are recognizable by their application of materials like opaline, brass, and fine wood to complete a silhouette which is elegant and refined. Today, the firm is led by his granddaughter, Agathe Lunel, who continues to focus on elegant mid-century designs as the core of the company's identity.
