Stunning A-Frame bookcase by French designer Jacques Adnet. Frame is made of black iron with brass caps. The 5 shelves of this piece are each made of thick ply oak with the edges wrapped in brown leather and fastened with brass hardware. Leather straps connecting each shelf run from the top shelf to the bottom shelf on either side of the bookcase. Every level of the bookcase is slightly larger than the last as you go down the A-Frame. Individual shelf dimensions listed below. No bends to frame and no cracks in any wooden panel. Iron brackets run under each shelf as added support. Extremely rare and collectible piece of Adnet in great vintage condition. Stunning patina to the leather, iron and oak. Very sturdy, substantial bookcase. Tremendous piece of collectible design and Jacques Adnet furniture.

Jacques Adnet
b. 1900
Jacques Adnet, born on the 20th of April 1900, was a French art deco modernist designer, architect and interior designer. As one of the Godfathers of modern French design his pieces have become highly sought after and collectible pieces which grace most major furniture collections around the world. He believed in the functional aspect of furniture combined with geometrical simplicity. From 1928 to 1960, he directed La Compagnie des Arts Francais during which time he partnered with Hermès to produce a collection of leather-covered furniture and accessories. Known for his mastery in incorporating precious woods, metal and leather into simple, elevated and timeless designs which would stand the test of time.
