Concrete Loop Chairs
Iconic pair of concrete loop chairs by Willy Guhl. The loop chairs were designed by Willy Guhl in 1954. This pair is dated 11-2-1968 on the underside of the chair. Guhl watched as the Eternit fiber cement panels were fabricated with a machine at the Eternit factory in Niederurnen and came up with the design. Gorgeous textural gray and white patina to both. Great vintage condition. The loop chairs are made from a single sheet of fiber cement, hand constructed over a wooden mold.
Willy Guhl had already determined the ergonomically correct seat profile with his brother's help in 1947 using impressions in clay made by sitting test persons, which were then cast in plaster. Like a sculptor, Guhl then reworked the seating loop's radii, always with a mind to the economy of production and the structural and material requirements.
Hand made in Switzerland in the 1960s.
Priced as a pair.
Located at our Los Angeles showroom.
